Claes Lundström

Background

Claes Lundström currently holds two positions, in academia as Adjunct Assistant Professor (Swedish: adjungerad universitetslektor) at Linköping University and in industry as Research Director of Medical IT at Sectra.

Lundström received a Master of Science degree in Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering at Linköping University in 1997. In 2003 Lundström started a doctoral research project concurrent with the work at Sectra, which 2007 resulted in a PhD in Medical Visualization. The research was carried out at the Center for Medical Image Science and Visualization (CMIV) at Linköping University, under the supervision of Professor Anders Ynnerman. Particular international recognition has been shown for his contributions to uncertainty visualization and Transfer Function design within medical volume rendering. The current primary research focus is to develop visualization methods that enable new levels of accuracy and efficiency within medical imaging. A particular focus is visualization of multi-variate and multi-dimensional data sets in a demanding clinical setting.

The role at Sectra is part of the Medical Division management group and the responsibilities include innovation development, long-term strategies for technology adoption, collaborations with academic and industrial partners, and IPR management. A notable example of prior positions is being Director of Product Management at Sectra, where Lundström lead the planning and execution of the R&D and marketing efforts for a divison of around 80 people and a yearly revenue of several hundred MSEK. Under Lundström’s leadership this product portfolio has yielded a consistent positive contribution to Sectra’s result.

Lundström is inventor or co-inventor of 7 patents and 3 further innovations that are patent pending, all within medical visualization.
